- Description: African tribes have found that traditional songs are one of the most crucial factors in fostering cohesion, solidarity and communication between physical and non-physical entities as well as knowledge of culture and cultural activities. Traditional women's songs, or izidlalo zabafazi, are amongst the most potent tools utilized by the AmaXhosa tribe. Women mostly use these songs to communicate their emotions about various situations. Before Westernization had an impact, women used izidlalo zabafazi to talk about and deal with terrible times and challenging circumstances, such as verbal, emotional, physical and all other forms of abuse experienced by them. This indicates that these songs were especially important in providing a platform for women to express themselves by singing, acting and reacting to their many struggles. Since women today also experience many difficulties, particularly those that have an emotional impact on them, this prompted the researcher to investigate whether the significance of these songs can be exposed as a traditional platform where women can express themselves about their marital matters and be viewed as traditional therapeutic systems to be used by AmaXhosa women even in our day and age… , Degree: M. - Description: The obligation to increase the standard of instruction and learning falls on academic developers. A crucial part of academic staff development at institutions of higher learning is the induction of academics who are primarily subject matter specialists without the pedagogical abilities to teach effectively in the higher education environment. This qualitative essay investigated how the Professional Excellence Programme (PEP) might be utilised as an induction Short Learning Programme (SLP) for new academics. After finishing the brief SLP, the inductees were given a questionnaire to evaluate the modules (Teaching and Learning, Curriculum Development, and Assessment in Higher Education) and qualitative data was gathered. The study was framed by Wegner's social learning theory. The research showed that the PEP programme can be an efficient programme to develop academics into university teachers. Since the SLP was accepted by all participants in the study, the study recommended that the Directorate of Teaching and Learning should develop the PEP programme into a credit-bearing postgraduate diploma in higher education at NQF Level 8, which is equivalent to an honours degree.

- Description: This article introduces the novel concept of an extended parametric Sb-metric space, which is a generalization of both Sb-metric spaces and parametric Sb-metric spaces. Within this extended framework, we first establish an analog version of the Banach fixed-point theorem for self-maps.We then prove an improved version of the Banach contraction principle for symmetric extended parametric Sb-metric spaces, using an auxiliary function to establish the desired result. Finally, we provide illustrative examples and an application for determining solutions to Fredholm integralequations, demonstrating the practical implications of our work.

- Description: A biosynthesis composite using the green synthesis of titled metal nanoparticles (nickel oxide nanoparticles, NiO NPs, and carbon dots, C-dots) was produced, characterized, and then applied for antimicrobial activities. NiO NPs were produced using the Croton macrostachyus (Bakkannisa) plant leaf extract and nickel nitrate (III) hexahydrate [Ni(NO3)2·2H2O] as precursors, while C-dots were produced using citric acid and o-phenylenediamine (o-OPD). The distribution of the average particle size of the NiO NPs and NiO NPs@C-dots was 25.34 ± 0.12 and 24.95 ± 0.22 nm, respectively. The antimicrobial effects of the prepared materials were tested against the selected bacterial and fungal strains. Based on the outcomes of the bioassay, it was realized that both the bare and composite materials were effective against all bacterial strains. The composite’s high surface area with strong inhibitive effective antimicrobial effects against bacterial and fungal strains were observed. Therefore, strong inhibitive effects of 21−24 and 22−26 mm were observed with NiO NPs and NiO NPs@C-dots, respectively.

Impact of relaxing flood policy interventions on fish production: lessons from earthen pond‑based farmers in Southwest Nigeria

- Description: These days, aquatic (fish) welfare is a major issue and a significant component that affects fish output. Although numerous factors can be involved, climate-induced floods are one of the most critical limiting factors in the aquaculture and fisheries industry’s development. Understanding the extent of losses and damages caused by floods at the farm level will thereby exacerbate pre-emptive policy responses. Thus, the impact of floods on fish production by focusing on catfish earthen pond-based farmers in Southwest Nigeria is presented. A survey is conducted for 150 fish farms in the region. A marginal treatment effects (MTE) approach is employed to determine the heterogeneity across the households and the policy-relevant treatment effects (PRTE). The results show significant heterogeneity in the effects of floods on fish production, considering both observed and unobserved characteristics of the farmers. It is shown that flood significantly increases output loss. Furthermore, farmers with high propensity scores to flood tend to have a high likelihood of incurring output loss. The estimates of PRTE reveal that relaxing policy strategies, such as access to climate information and climate-related training and workshops, would significantly exacerbate output loss due to flood incidences. Thus, intensifying awareness and sensitization on climate change policies will address the flood menace and still increase food production.

- Description: Abstract The study examined the impact of Sustainable Tax Revenue and Expenditure on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in African countries using secondary data. The dataset was extracted from the World Development Indicators database. The large gap between developed and developing countries when comparing the probability of them achieving the SDGs was the main motivation behind this study. Data retrieved from 45 countries comprised of both African and developed countries for the period 2010–2020 was analyzed using the Generalized Method of Moments technique. The results revealed that the coefficients of grants received, various forms of taxes, and other revenue have a positive effect on economic growth but a negative effect on poverty and unemployment for African and developed countries. This finding suggests that improvements in tax revenue generation, grants and other revenue accumulation across different sources boost economic performance and the welfare of individuals in the analyzed countries. The outcome is an indication that accumulating more grants from different sources will help to achieve sustainable development, improve financial stability, contributes to the economic growth and development in these countries. This study can guide policymakers, governments, international institutions, revenue bodies such as SARS and other stakeholders in their various planning and other decision-making endeavors. Governments and other policymakers must ensure the efficient generation and sustainable utilization of revenue generated from taxes and other revenues to spur the growth and development of their countries. They should have Growth-Sustainability-Oriented Fiscal Adjustment Programs and Sustainable Government Expenditure that can help push and redirect governments to achieve the SDGs in Africa.

- Description: To be proficient when learning a language, one needs to have an instilled culture to investigate and probe deeper into diversities of the underlying language aspects. An investigative culture and improved critical thinking skills during language learning requires a multifaceted approach that involves both the teacher and learners to engage cooperatively. When this culture has been instilled, teachers can impart to learners skills to analyse information and evaluate sources, yet, drawing conclusions based onevidence. This paper had its main aim of investigating whether instilling an investigative culture can enhance language learning for improved comprehension skills. For this investigation, a qualitative approach was applied and entrenched in a case study design where five conveniently sampled university English language teachersas initiators to implant an investigative culture to enhance language learning were nominated as participants. To collect data, semi structured interviews were administered and this assistedto have better understanding of the underlying factors caused by lacking culture to investigate matters for enhanced language learning. From this study it was divulged that (i) enhanced research skills and (ii) improved memory retentionwere themajor findings as outcomes of an instilled investigative culture when learning languages. - Description: There has been a growing concern for excellent service delivery in the public sector. The challenges that are hindering service delivery in Town Councils have been attributed to political interference in appointments and ineffective leadership. The residents in the Town Council have been experiencing power outages and water shortages. The livelihoods of the residents and business operations have been hindered by these difficulties. This study investigates the influence of leadership on service delivery in a Town Council in Namibia. A qualitative research approach was adopted to analyse the influence of leadership practices on service delivery in times of change. A total of ten participants were sampled from a population of 117 staff members using a purposive sampling. Face-to-face interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. Participants views were tape recorded, transcribed into Microsoft Word, and analysed using thematic analysis via NVivo 12. The results showed that logistical difficulties, political interference, lack of human resources, and financial constraints, are the challenges hampering service delivery in the Town Council. The need for managers and supervisors to inspire, coach, mentor, and motivate their subordinates to enhance service delivery using a transformational leadership style is evident in the results. Therefore, the Town Council should prioritise budgeting, foster public-private partnerships, promote innovation, and ensure stakeholder engagement to enhance service delivery in the Town Council.

- Description: The preparation of flexible electrode, including working electrode (WE) and counter electrode (CE), for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) utilizing metal oxides using environmentally friendly sustainable TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNFs) is reported in this work. A new type of flexible electrode for the DSSCs, which were made of cellulose nanofiber composites with nickel hydroxide [CNF/Ni(OH)2] substrate films and cellulose nanofiber composites with polypyrrole (CNF/PPY). Nickel hydroxide, Ni(OH)2, has been prepared hydrothermally in the presence of TOCNFs, [TOCNF@Ni(OH)2]. Similarly, the conductive polymer substrate has also been prepared from a composite consisting of TOCNF and PPY, TOCNF@ PPY film, by means of polymerization for the CE. Overall, the prepared electrodes both WE from CNF/Ni(OH)2 substrates and CE from the TOCNF@PPY substrate film were revealed as the novelty of this work and which no one has introduced previously. Although NiO nanoparticles (NPs) coated on the Ni(OH)2/TOCNF electrode also produced a good power conversion efficiency, PCE (0.75%); nevertheless, the NiO NP treatment with carbon dots boosted the efficiency up to 1.3%.

- Description: In classroom situations encouraging learners to holistically engage in spoken and written tasks in English language learning with characteristics of being additional and unfamiliar, is equated to enhancing learning environment, thereby fostering individualand collective growth. For organizations to inspire recipients with speaking and writing abilities, this leads to innovative solutions. This paper seeks to inquire whether fostering opportunities in an organizational capacity for learners to engage in speaking and written activities have any significant importance towards enhanced language development. Underpinning this inquiry is a qualitative research approach with a case study design to explore key characteristics of the studied case. To gather data, five conveniently nominated participants were identified from a rurally located institution of higher learning. Semi-structured interviews led to a thematic analysis of gathered data. Findings revealed that through consistent engagements in spoken and written texts (i) there were improved communication skills and (ii) the development of an inclusive learning environment. The study concludes that when learner communication skills have been refined, this is tantamount to academic excellence with recommendations that individual learner contributions should be valued as inclusion promotes mutual responsiveness among teachers and learners not only in language learning but across all subjects underpinning curriculum.
